Why it matters

Payment services and e-money issuers operate under the PSRs and EMRs, which set authorisation and conduct requirements. Cryptoasset firms can now apply to the FCA through Connect ahead of the new regime, which is expected to come into force on 25 October 2027.

How it applies to your firm

The Payment Services Regulations 2017 and Electronic Money Regulations 2011 set out the FCA's payments and e-money regime, covering the payment services listed in Schedule 1 to the PSRs and the issuing of e-money. The Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Cryptoassets) Regulations 2026 were made by Parliament and will bring cryptoassets within the FCA's remit. The new cryptoasset regime is expected to come into force on 25 October 2027.
