Regulatory preparation

Interview preparation grounded in evidence

Structured preparation for high-stakes FCA and regulated-firm interviews, with a clear distinction between regulator-facing discussions and recruitment for senior controlled functions.

  • Two distinct preparation pathways
  • Document and evidence-led
  • No scripted testimony or outcome promises
Choose your preparation route

Which interview are you preparing for?

The work is tailored to the audience, the evidence available and the purpose of the interview. Select the route that best describes your situation.

Selected pathway

FCA and regulator-facing interview preparation

Preparation for a firm or individual who needs to explain its business model, controls, responsibilities and remediation position to a regulator or supervisor.

Who it is for

  • Applicants and controllers preparing for authorisation or change in control
  • Senior Managers seeking SMF approval or responding to supervisory attention
  • Firms preparing for a VREQ, s166, remediation or thematic engagement

Typical use cases

  • Authorisation and VoP interviews
  • SMF approval and fitness and propriety discussions
  • Supervisory, VREQ, s166 and remediation meetings

How we work

  1. 01Review the stated purpose, participants, available evidence and known areas of challenge
  2. 02Build an issue map linking likely questions to the firm’s documents, records and accountable owners
  3. 03Run structured, fact-based challenge and capture follow-up actions or evidence gaps

What you receive

  • Interview brief and evidence map
  • Question themes with prompts for the firm’s own factual answers
  • Action log covering open evidence, owners and next steps
A focused engagement

Built around the evidence in front of you

We start with the facts, documents and interview context available. The output is practical preparation that helps you explain your own position clearly and consistently.

Who this is for

  • Founders, controllers, Senior Managers and applicants
  • Candidates and hiring teams at regulated firms
  • Compliance, MLRO, risk and governance professionals

Typical use cases

  • Authorisation, SMF approval, VoP and change in control
  • Supervisory, VREQ, s166 and remediation preparation
  • Senior manager, SM&CR and controlled-function job interviews

Professional boundaries

Evidence-led, not outcome-led

Our work is grounded in the facts and evidence supplied. It does not replace the client's own judgement, legal advice or a decision by the FCA, another regulator or an employer.

  • We do not coach anyone to mislead a regulator, employer or panel.
  • We do not write scripted testimony or provide legal representation.
  • We do not promise FCA approval, a supervisory outcome, SMF approval, a job offer or any other decision.
  • The person or firm remains responsible for the accuracy and completeness of its answers and submissions.
Questions answered

Frequently asked questions

Is this legal advice or legal representation?

No. This is preparation and regulatory consulting, not legal advice or representation. Where a matter involves legal interpretation, privilege, litigation or a formal response requiring counsel, we will say so and recommend involving appropriate legal advisers.

Will you script my answers?

No. We use the evidence and issues in scope to help you organise your thinking, test clarity and identify gaps. We do not create testimony or rehearse answers intended to conceal, minimise or misstate facts.

Can you guarantee an FCA or job outcome?

No. Regulatory decisions and recruitment decisions belong to the relevant authority or employer. Preparation can improve readiness and clarity, but it cannot promise authorisation, approval, a supervisory outcome, an SMF approval or a job offer.

Can the two pathways be combined?

Yes, where the brief genuinely spans a regulatory interview and a role interview. We will keep the objectives, evidence and boundaries distinct so the preparation remains appropriate for each audience.
